Born into a family of musicians, Deniz Oliveira Erdinç began studying violin, cello and piano at an early age. Deciding to seriously pursue music at the age of 17, he was accepted into Bilkent University Music Faculty’s piano department, where he studied under the tutelage of Gülnara Aziz, a pianistic descendant of Heinrich Neuhaus, for 8 years. During this time, he gave many recitals in various cities in Turkey, attending masterclasses held by Hüseyin Sermet, Emre Elivar, Boris Berman, Valentin Surif, Gülsin Onay, Jean Bernard Pommier, Misha Dacic, Giselle Brodsky, Makoto Ueno, Alexander Madzar and Laurent Cabasso. He also studied harmony with Yigit Aydın, from with Tolga Yayalar, score reading with Isin Metin, as well as solfeggio and piano with Odette Gartenlaub in Paris. After the end of his piano studies, the artist concentrated on orchestral conducting, during which time he worked with his father Maestro Erol Erdinç and attended masterclasses held by Maestri Jorma Panula, Lior Shambadal, Gürer Aykal and Rengim Gökmen. Between 2017 and 2019, he was awarded a scholarship by TEV (Turkish Education Foundation) to study conducting and harmony in the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris with Dominique Rouits and Roselyne Masset-Lecocq. During this time, he also became Artist-in-Residence in the Cité Internationale des Arts, creating and assuming music directorship of an orchestra in the institution, the ‘Orchestre en résidence de la Cité Internationale des Arts’ (ORCIA). Following the end of his studies in Paris, he became assistant conductor of the Bilkent Youth Symphony Orchestra in Ankara, a post he held until the end of his second masters degree in conducting in Bilkent University, with maestro Isin Metin as his advisor. As of the 2022/23 season, Deniz Oliveira Erdinç will continue his artistic life as a conductor in the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, as well as continue to assume the role of Chorusmaster and Musical Director of the Lycée Notre Dame de Sion Chorus in Istanbul. This seasons’s highlights include Donizetti’s Don Pasquale with the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, a return to the Saransk Opera and Ballet theater in Russia, as well as a closer collaboration with the Antalya State Symphony in Turkey.
